Originating from Nablus, a well known community of craftspeople, Aisha Dweikat is determined to use her talent in promoting the Palestinian culture, while embedding herself in the global efforts towards sustainability and ethical production.

“My design is about environment meeting heritage and I would like it to tell a story.? - Aisha Dweikat

Aisha starts out at the Jenin Refugee Camp, where her mission was to design a set of games for the refugees, with the only materials available being scraps of fabric.

Her focus then morphs into reviving and sustaining the Palestinian heritage, through the design of jewellery and home decoration. To achieve her goal, she later introduces olive wood and sponge in her designs. Now, Aisha and her team upcycles also fabric and leather material that would otherwise end up in landfill into gorgeous home accessories, bags, cushion covers, table runners and a lot of other eco-friendly products. Check them out!

Along with her environmental approach, Dweikat is using her initiative to help women in her community have access to a job and a stable income, by employing them in her workshop. In fact all products of Aisha Design are handmade-stitched by refugees and low-income women artists in Palestine. Despite the uniqueness of her products and their value for the environment and the community, it is difficult for Aisha Designs to take off in international level: setting a clientele base between the local community, tourists, and expats, revenue is often tight, as shipping costs are exorbitant. Hence the idea of the crowdfunding campaign, to help the initiative maintain and promote its activity.

Lacking the knowledge to launch a successful campaign herself, Dweikat has benefitted from the support of the Union for the Mediterranean and SwitchMed, which provided her with the services of one of the best experts in this sector: Happy Smala

Through an extensive Skype training, Aisha soon learns of the opportunities and options for crowdfunding her initiative, and decides on Indiegogo to host her campaign. If the campain would be successful, Aisha Dweikat would prevent 20 ton-fabrics and industrial leather from being thrown to landfills and provide stable income to 4 impoverished families,

Let’s help Aisha have a greater impact on her community and environment. The campaign is available through this link :
